Palma de Mallorca, St. Agusti

Sebastià and Damià Caimari 1702

State of preservation: In 1755 enlarged by Jordi Bosch or Gabriel Thomás including the horizontal trumpet stops. Restored by Gerhard Grenzing in 1969/70.

The organ in Palma de Mallorca, St. Agusti, represents a common catalan type often present on the island. Instruments this size in such an excellent state of preservation are very rare.

The organ was placed in a swallows' nest high on the southern wall of the church. The symmetrical organ front clearly shows its divisions with a main organ in the center, opposed by small parapet positive, and the Echo atop. The organ was intended to supplement chorale singing, in particular alternatim, the Echo (El teclat l’alt) allowing improvisation with protruding solo stops. Another particularity is the presence of two Flautat stops (diapasons), the one on the left, the other on the right side of the front for interesting dialogues between them.
