Arp Schnitger 1680 for Hamburg St. Johannis, including the use of parts of previous organs; transfer to Cappel in 1816.
State of preservation: majority original.
Schnitger reused in his organ for Hamburg St. Johannis (now Cappel) a considerable number or pipes from older organs, as he often did; in this organ predominantly in the main organ. An organ this size with two manuals and about 20 to 30 stops resembled the common ideas of an organ for a minor town parish. So organs of that kind of nonetheless impressive size needed certain cuts in costs. Schnitger's use of functioning older parts show both a respect for quality work of his predecessors and economic reason as well.
