Signature: "Caspar Katholnig // Bürger in Wien" (ornamental script)
Whether and to what extent the different spellings on the signatures, as they appear on the signatures of our two Catholnigg square pianos, could provide clues for chronological dating is not yet researched, but seems plausible, as such nameplates, just like the different decorative frames surrounding them, were typically produced by external suppliers. They certainly were "processed" according to the volume of orders and re-ordered as needed. The observable differences may arise from changes in suppliers, variations in contemporary taste, or company chronology.
This instrument is intended to remain as a reference in its original unrestored condition.
