The instrument previously in Tannheim (Tyrol) in 2011 was heavily worn and damaged by previous storage in a shed and some DIY repair attempts. It was documented in photographs and CAD drawings in unaltered state in our institute.
Based on these data this instrument of great importance for 18th c. piano history was reconstructed in playable condition, without any interfering with the original instrument. This reconstruction was made by our "Spath team" (Magdalena Balk, Marlis Dörhöfer, Helmut Balk) within 24 months and gave a multitude of new organological informations.
Three details from the reproduction:
Spath (Franz Jakob) instrument maker in Regensburg. Produces keyboard instruments of ingenious quality. His grand pianos are particularly excellent not only regarding the beautiful, neat and durable work but because of all the refinement. The price of such an instrument on the spot[*] is 40 ducats. Mr Spath now works jointly with his son-in-law Mr Schmahl.
* These (not all!) instruments were produced on storage not, as usual, on customers' orders. So they could be bought and delivered "on the spot".
