Study project implementation of an ERP-System

in cooperation with students of Hochschule Augsburg, Fakultät für Wirtschaft, directed by Prof. Dr. Peter Richard and Prof. Dr. Waibel

"Historic Production processes in modern documentation"

Within this cooperation a tripartite project was initiated to implement a standard data management programme for scientific documentation, begun in winter term 2017/18.

1: Requirements analysis

Main purpose was to find a suitable ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) - System for the scientific documentationof our analyses of original instruments and our handicraft work within the framework of our experimental-archeological methods. In four groups (IT, data, personell and quality management) the participants defined the requirement profiles of our institute. The challenge was to evaluate different industrial IT-tools in regard to our needs. This required to record various everyday procedures of our work, to evaluate these with the structures of existing programs and to test with short examples.

A suitable program was chosen to be tested in a following phase (Microsoft Dynamics Navision).

In a next step two students implemented the program within the work processes of our workshop.

The main question was how the program could support the single documentation steps in everyday use and how to migrate present documentation data (technical drawings, photos, scripts, lists asf.) with ease. The range of materials and individual experiences collected from current projects should be usefully documented and processed to access the wide scope of material.
Since this program was developped for smaller and medium enterprises and contains a multitude of planning and documenting tools, not all relevant fully for our purposes this project phase focussed on a useful selections of functions and the processing of individual working procedures in our institute.

This academic project was for us an important step to elevate working processes and documentations with a new structure on a new professional level. For this valuable preparatory work of the students we are deeply grateful.

Meanwhile this ERP system was updated with indidual programs even more suitable for our requirements compatible with thisERP system-kompatibel and constantly refined further.
